Dont get stuck, bin your gum!
Test Valley Borough Council has today launched a campaign aimed at tackling the sticky problem of chewing gum.
In Romsey today there was a team of officers from TVBC offering advice, handing out information and free goodies as well as a grime scene, to encourage people to come and find out more about the campaign.
The campaign is part of a national drive to raise awareness of gum littering and the Council was one of sixteen local authorities across England to receive funding from Chewing Gum Action Group, chaired by DEFRA, to support a local campaign.
Cllr Caroline Nokes visited the grime scene today and said:
The Grime Scene Outside The Tavern in Romsey - showing how many pieces of chewing gum are discarded in an average month.
Last year we spent £3000 of tax payers money cleaning chewing gum off the streets of Romsey. The Grime Scene today certainly attracted a great deal of attention, and was a very vivid way of demonstrating what a mess people make with gum.
