Diabetes Awareness Day Gets Thumbs Up

Cllr Caroline Nokes and her husband Marc, who has type 1 diabetes, attended the Diabetes Awareness Day in Romsey Town Hall today, in order to find out more about the local groups and organisations working to help diabetics.

Marc who was diagnosed in March last year commented:

"This was a really useful event for people like me, who have only been diagnosed relatively recently. There was a real mix of healthcare professionals and support groups, and I got some great tips as well as some lovely recipes."

Caroline Nokes had her blood pressure and blood glucose levels checked (they were normal) and said:

"The day was really well supported and it was a great opportunity for me to talk to people about this increasingly common condition.  I have had to learn a great deal about diabetes over the last 18 months, and how I can help Marc with what I cook.  There was a very long queue for the blood pressure checks - which just goes to show how many people were there finding out a bit more."
