10/04/2010 - Lib Dems Ignore Church Plea for Positive Campaign

Caroline Nokes, Conservative Candidate for Romsey and Southampton North and the favourite to win in this ultra marginal seat, has suggested the Liberal Democrats would do better to concentrate on explaining Liberal Democrat policies than to waste their efforts on a deluge of negativity and spin.

In one of the glossy Lib Dem leaflets Sandra Gidley says Caroline Nokes, the popular and well established Conservative candidate “won’t stand up for the people of Romsey”.

Caroline says:

“I can assure the people of Romsey and Southampton North  I will be a doughty fighter for this area. I have been horrified to see the raw deal the south of England has got from Labour as more and more money has been poured into the Labour heartlands.

"Local Lib Dem MPs have spent their time criticizing the local Councils rather than exposing the faults of the Labour Government. Whilst they have been twittering about taps the Labour Government has been running this nation’s  economy onto the rocks. Britain was first into the recession and we are last out. We need an MP who will be able to both  look after constituents interests and focus on the bigger picture.

"I have made my commitment to Romsey and Southampton North clear over the last 8 years as a candidate here and 11 as a local councillor.  I hope Mrs Gidley has the good sense to move away from her persistent negativity. Romsey Churches have rightly asked for a positive campaign but it seems that fell on deaf ears in the Lib Dem HQ."
