British Troops Deserve Better
Cllr Caroline Nokes, the Conservative candidate for Romsey and Southampton North at the forthcoming General Election, has welcomed the speech given today by Dr Liam Fox MP, the Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Defence.
Speaking after his speech in Blackpool Caroline said:
"Dr Fox's speech highlighted the concerns that many of us have about the state of the armed forces today.
"Our servicemen and women are some of the best in the world, but they are sorely stretched in Afghanistan and Iraq, and now we here that up to 6000 more troops are to be cut from the army, and the navy is to shrink again.
"I welcome the commitment Dr Fox made to reversing cuts, specifically the restoration of the three infantry battallions that have been cut by Labour.
"But more than that I was pleased that he highlighted the need for us to appreciate our armed forces. Here in Hampshire Aldershot has led the way in ensuring a rousing welcome home to our troops who have been serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. But I think Liam Fox is right to call for more of a welcome home to be extended to them, and their families, who suffer huge anxiety whilst they are away."
Caroline joined other Conservative candidates in supporting the campaign led by Conservative Way Forward who have been highlighting the need for better equipment for our forces.
