Michael Gove MP Visits Halterworth County Primary
Earlier today the Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families visited Halterworth County Primary School to meet with staff, Governors and children.Accompanied by the Conservative candidate for Romsey, Cllr Caroline Nokes, Michael Gove had an opportunity to listen to staff concerns about issues such as the testing regime at Key Stages 1 and 2, and their response to the value added league tables.
Headteacher, Mrs Jo Cottrell, who had welcomed Mr Gove to the school also spoke about the funding formula for schools, which sometimes worked against successful schools such as Halterworth.
During his visit Mr Gove was interviewed by children working on the school newspaper, who were interested in his school days, and also his views on healthy eating and sport in schools.
Speaking after the visit Caroline Nokes said:
"This was a useful opportunity for the Shadow Secretary of State to see a first class, successful primary school, and to listen to the views of the staff. It is so important in the formulation of party Policy that we look at the whole spectrum of schools. One of the things that struck me was the importance to share best practise and make sure that all schools benefit from the successful methods that are so clearly being deployed at Halterworth.
"As a former journalist I was not surprised that Mr Gove handled the questions from the school reporters so well, and he particularly complimented them on the lay out and content of the current edition of their paper."
