Local Election Candidates Take time out to Train for Triathlon

A team of Romsey Council candidates have been skipping political campaigning in order to train for the XLP Research Trust Triathlon - which was held yesterday Sunday 29th April.

Led by the Conservative candidate for Romsey Caroline Nokes the team was scheduled to have been Caroline Nokes - running 3.5 miles, Andrew Gibson (who is standing for TVBC in North Baddesley) cycling 16 miles and Martin Hatley (Ampfield and Braishfield) swimming 0.5 miles. Unfortunately Martin was struck down with shingles and could not compete, so his niece Amy stepped in for him.

The team completed the event on a cumulative time of 1 hour 31 minutes and 32 seconds - which won them the trophy for the best mixed team. Caroline Nokes was also awarded a special achievement trophy for having got herself into shape to run the 3.5 miles - having had a fairly depressing fitness assessment at the start of the year.

"This was all about raising money for the XLP Research Trust, having fun and setting ourselves some personal goals. I was thrilled to be able to finish the running in a personal best time, but credit for the trophy has to go to my team mates who were both amazing. The competition really spurred me on to get fit and not to let my team mates down." said Caroline
