Germany condemns Brown's economic strategy

George OsborneThe German Finance Minister this week described Gordon Brown's decision to borrow billions to fund tax cuts as "crass", and stressed it would only "raise Britain's debt to a level that will take a whole generation to work off".

George Osborne said the comments from Peer Steinbrück undermined Brown's claims that the whole world was copying Labour's borrowing binge:

"In the very same week that Gordon Brown stood up in Parliament and claimed that he was saving the world, the world answered back."
